Alex Falcone Lexington Concert reviews
Both Bands Fantastic
Wolf Alice, such a great addition to the modern music pool, opened the show with skill and finesse. Ellie's voice is so diverse, she holds up amazingly when she wants to sing like a diva with vibrato and long held pitches. I wish more folks heard them; they sounded so great. I wish they could've gone on a bit later to catch more of the Alex Falcone crowd numbers. I have a dream of a cool tour package. Four bands: Wolf Alice, Chelsea Wolfe, Daughter, and Eisley. Who headlines would be up to them.
QOTSA are so polished at this point that to say they are great is a redundancy. They had a great setlist, building the fun and excitement with one strong song after another. Some spacey jams seguing into other tunes were fun and surprising at moments. Bass and drums were perfectly on point, and it was cool to witness how complex his parts are. Josh Homme's banter was fun and witty, despite protestations of drunkenness. Last, the LED light show was stunning; there were moments when the reds and blues were so intense and saturated that it affected my brain, enjoyably! Also the flopping light sticks the band messed with were fun, but sometimes added a bit of silliness that didn't always match the cool vibe of the music. Troy's slide work on the lap steel was amazing. Also, criticisms; I felt Josh Homme's guitar was too quiet, and (I can't believe I'm saying this as a former bass player), the bass was too loud, obscuring the other instruments. But these are small things, I loved the show overall.
